Jay and Ryanne have posted and, again recently asked, about notifications for their ArrayShift-based site at http://www.homesteadingwtf.com

These are our notes for tonight's Drupal Clinic

Here's a comparison chart:

and the obligatory link to management's view on the topic:

We're going to use the watcher contributed module because (1) we have some experience with it (2) support for guest (anon) users and (3) it was already installed on my multi-site :)

You'll need to download:

Copy to your server

Activate from /admin/build/modules (note that you must already have 'token' module active).

Grant permissions (note we have a moderator role, in addition to the two default roles of anon and auth users).

and under a new version with predefined roles:

Oops! Here is what happens using garland theme:

This can be fixed by creating a new subtheme (need instructions?) and adding the following CSS:

.content .watcher_node {
clear: both;
}

And it did not even show up on the as_theme ( http://drupal.org/project/as_theme). We will have to investigate that. I've seen this kind of thing before in another theme: widgets not showing up on node pages. Perhaps there is something common that folks should be doing when overriding node.tpl.php

As is often the case with tools like Drupal, seemingly simple things can turn into challenges. More coming soon...

Our good friend and partner Alicia Coral has opened a bed and breakfast style guest house next door to the Apperceive offices and the Ojai Digital Dojo training center (... where media production and distribution are martial arts).

Alicia has done some fine work enhancing the two private suites, including a new luxury bath and tub, beautiful new glass doors to enhance privacy and that special quiet that some enjoy while listening to the birds, wind chimes and water fountains. Even a new ramp for greater accessibility.

The guest house has a variety of room configurations, but the key offering is a 3 bedroom suite that is perfect for a small group of 3-6 people who want to stay overnight or over the weekend for a learning event or training session at the Digital Dojo.

Combine that with a fun event like the Ojai Film Festival or some horse back riding in the Ventura River Nature Preserve or hiking one of our many prized trails in the Los Padres National Forrest.

Apperceive and Dojo event participants qualify for a discount rate at the guest house and we will be putting together some great training and lodging combination packages. Keep an eye on this blog and site for more information about these events and packages. More details soon. Feel free to suggest topics and dates. What would you like to see in the way of Ojai getaway + training.

For more details about facilities, reservations and pricing, check out the Ojai Dojo Guest House. Mention this blog post or the code 'apperceive' for a 10% discount on posted prices.

We're working on a new script to produce the header images for the blog rotator we are using. I'm writing a fairly generic utility that scans a folder for images and creates the wide transparent image with 2 or 3 images from the folder.

Currently, the spacing is set to the edges and center, but other options are clearly desirable. I was thinking of adding parameters to even spacing, allow for more, narrower, images when space allows and some blurring between sharp edges.

Would like to add import from flickr or general url's features.

It's not hard to spend the whole day playing with this. I have to force myself to keep up on client work.

A nice story begins to emerge when you start loading up all the images.

Doe this look like fun or useful to you? What features would help or would you like to see?
