hi. regarding the "views" counter: (1) the template is referring to $node->statistics['totalcount'] for the number of views. This value is not in memory during a node view. (2) by granting 'view post access counter' permissions for the statistics module to anon and auth users, Drupal will show $node['links']['statistices_counter']['title'] in the Links section.
